The conviction
Sustainability isa data problem.
BuiltZERO was founded on a pattern we kept meeting on projects. The digital team and the sustainability team were describing the same building, at the same time, in incompatible formats. A federated model held every quantity a life cycle assessment needed — and the assessment was rebuilt by hand from PDFs anyway.
That gap is expensive twice over. It is paid once in duplicated fees, and again in the design decisions that could not be tested in time because the analysis arrived after the specification was frozen.
So we built a consultancy that holds both. Information requirements are written knowing what the carbon model will need. The assessment runs while the design can still move. The certification evidence falls out of work already done rather than becoming a second project at the end.
The model, the carbon and the certificate all describe one building. They should be produced by one team.

Every recommendation traces back to a model, a calculation or a standard. If we cannot evidence it, we do not claim it.

The decisions that move carbon and cost happen long before certification. We would rather be in the room at concept than auditing at completion.

We take no software commissions and resell nothing. The tool recommendation you get is the one we would use ourselves.

Estonia gave us a straightforward EU base for contracting and compliance, and a digital-government infrastructure that suits a company built to operate remotely. The certification schemes, information standards and carbon methodologies we work to are international — the location of the registered office has never been the constraint.
