Automating a full certification credit: from a working day to under half an hour

The site and connectivity credit in a major green building rating system is worth six points and is among the most data-intensive to evidence. Documenting it by hand means digitising a site boundary in GIS software, generating the 400 m study buffer, counting and classifying every rooftop inside it from aerial imagery, then cross-referencing each nearby transit route's published weekday and weekend timetable stop by stop. A senior sustainability analyst is typically given a full working day to produce it — for one credit, on one project.

Our story

Built from the model up

BuiltZERO started from a pattern we kept seeing on projects: the digital team and the sustainability team were modelling the same building, at the same time, and never speaking. The carbon assessment was rebuilt by hand from drawings that a federated model already described perfectly.

We founded the company to hold both scopes — so structured information feeds the assessment, the assessment informs design while it can still move, and the evidence trail is a by-product of the work rather than a second project.
